Children evacuated from Paidon Hospital in Penteli last week as a large wildfire swept through northeastern Attica returned on Monday, a Greek minister said.

The hospital resumed normal operation at 8 a.m. after undergoing thorough cleaning and disinfection, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on a post on X (former Twitter).

Last August, when the Alexandroupolis hospital was evacuated for the safety of patients and staff due to a raging fire, it was an unprecedented event. However, this scenario is becoming increasingly common. In the last two days, amid the firestorm in Attica, not one but three healthcare facilities were evacuated, with uncertainty about whether more health structures will need to follow.

Several children hospitalized after consuming cannabis-laced biscuits have stabilized, with their conditions showing improvement, and doctors expect them to recover soon, BNT reports.

The Government approved additional costs for the budget of the Ministry of Health in 2019 amounting to BGN 3 450 000.

Part of the funds will be directed towards the purchase of medical equipment worth up to BGN 1,250 thousand for the needs of pediatric hospital care by conducting a public procurement under the Public Procurement Act of the Ministry of Health.

About BGN 3 million for child health will be allocated by the government, reported NOVA TV.

This became clear after a meeting of the pediatricians at the only children's hospital with the prime minister and the health minister.

The bulk of the money - BGN 700,000 will go to the children's hospital.

But in his free time, he can be found doing chores without pay with his residency mentor at the public hospital, working with children and their parents, or assisting with research.

Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev Specialised Children's Hospital in Sofia is protesting again, the Bulgarian National Television reported. In less than a week, this will be the second protest of the only hospital specialised in children's diseases in Bulgaria. The doctors continue to insist on a special status of the medical facility and on removing admission limits.

An increase in violent attacks on staff at the country's hospitals has prompted the Panhellenic Medical Association to launch a public awareness campaign to curb the phenomenon.
