Serbian leaders, the Chinese ambassador to Serbia and representatives of Chinese and UAE companies on Thursday laid the foundations of a Sinopharm vaccines factory in a suburb of Belgrade - a joint investment of Serbia, China and the United Arab Emirates worth 30 million euros.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with China and the United Arab Emirates on Monday for the production of the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine in Serbia.

Eleven days after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, TV audiences in Serbia were treated to an extraordinary sight.

The factory, in which "Sinopharm" vaccines will be packaged first, and later produced, will be a joint investment of Serbia, China and the United Arab Emirates. A plant for the production of PCR tests is also planned, the Municipality of Zemun announced.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on June 1 it has approved a COVID-19 vaccine made by Sinovac Biotech for emergency use listing, paving the way for a second Chinese shot to be used in poor countries.

Greece has extended restrictions on entry into the country until 7 June, meaning that all travellers arriving there are required to have a negative PCR certificate from a testing laboratory, for a Covid-19. The test should be taken no later than 72 hours before arrival.

As announced, Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabi, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Serbia, Chen Bo, will welcome the new contingent of Chinese vaccines.
There were half a million doses of Chinese company vaccines on the plane.

Facing an unprecedented healthcare crisis in the third wave of the novel coronavirus, featuring skyrocketing death rates now totalling 30,000, the highest in the world per capita, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's government ordered massive doses of eastern vaccines and rushed to inoculate citizens.

The United Arab Emirates have already completed the research and obtained the results of Sinopharm efficiency.

President Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday said Serbia will start producing its own Russian-designed Sputnik V vaccines in June. "Between June 5 and 10 we will have the first doses of the vaccine," he said after visiting the Torlak Institute in Belgrade, where production of the COVID vaccine started on Wednesday.
