An academic personnel and two officers at Turkey’s Batman University were suspended from their duties on Dec. 20 for reflecting an incident involving “students wearing a face veil” to the press.

The provincial Directorate of Family and Social Policies has opened an investigation after photos emerged of kindergarten children wearing bridal clothes and veils in the Aegean province of Uşak, Doğan News Agency has reported. 

Photos of children aged between 4 and 5 wearing bridal clothes and veils stirred outrage among Turkish social media users after emerging on May 17.

The European People’s Party (EPP) announced it would support the banning of the Islamic veil across Europe during its annual meeting in Malta, Friday. “We want to ban the veiling of the face all over Europe”, the party’s head Manfred Weber told German media.

The ruling coalition in Austria has harmonized after several days of debate a package of reforms envisaging a ban on full-face Muslim veils in public places.

These public places include courts and schools.
