Romania's centre-right president Klaus Iohannis on Monday said he would not ask the Social Democratic Party, PSD, to form a government despite coming first in Sunday's legislative elections.

As far as the appointment of a new prime minister is concerned, the National Liberal Party (PNL) will support the decision that will result after talks between President Klaus Iohannis , PNL and other parties, PNL national leader Ludovic Orban said on Wednesday.

National Liberal Party (PNL) President, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, said on Monday that liberal MPs will vote against the censure motion, a move about which he said it does not have enough votes to be passed. Incumbent President Klaus Iohannis of the National Liberal Party scored 66 per cent of the vote to secure a second term on Sunday, according to the official count with over 99 per cent of polling stations having declared results.

The National Liberal Party (PNL) had as goal a score of over 40 percent for President Klaus Iohannis in the first round of the presidential elections, PNL Chairman and Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said, who voiced himself optimistic that the President would win in the second round as well, regardless of the opponent he would have.

President Klaus Iohannis, 60, who had designated Orban as prime minister and was a determined opponent of Dancila's tumultuous centre-left government, is the undisputed favourite to win the vote on Sunday.
