Relatives and friends are saying their last “goodbye” today to the professor-writer Christos Yannaras, who passed away on August 24, at the age of 89.

Christos Yannaras, one of the most popular contemporary Greek philosophy professors and authors, has passed away at the age of 89.

The news of his death was announced by his son via Facebook.

Christos Yannaras was a fellow of the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The Kapetan Christos cargo ship has been forced by gale-force winds to seek shelter in Thessaloniki's Thermaic Gulf while carrying 410 tons of explosive material from Crete.

Some 410 tons of explosives have been moved from the Andromeda, a Tanzania-flagged cargo vessel intercepted off Crete earlier this month, onto a Greek cargo ship, the Kapetan Christos, which is expected to dock at the port of Thessaloniki on Thursday morning.
