Firefighters From Six Countries Tackle Devastating Blaze Near Greek Capital
For the third consecutive day, firefighters are battling the massive blaze near Athens, with the assistance of teams from six countries helping to bring the fire under control. Despite this progress, efforts continue to combat smaller outbreaks in the suburbs. The fire has already consumed more than 100,000 acres of forest and low vegetation, according to Reuters.
Wildfire in east Attica brought under partial control
Firefighters brought a wildfire in the Varimpompi area of east Attica under partial control on Wednesday.
The fire broke out at around 2.10 pm close to an inhabited area.
Some 30 firefighters, 10 fire trucks, 2 firefighting airplanes and 2 helicopters were dispatched on the scene.
Volunteers are also contributing to the firefighting effort.
