Bulgaria stands out as one of the five countries among a group of 29 nations that have made strides in enhancing their judicial systems, according to the latest annual report released by "Freedom House," an American foundation dedicated to assessing democracy and human rights worldwide.

As U.S. intelligence agencies ramp up their efforts against China, top officials acknowledge they may also end up collecting more phone calls and emails from Chinese Americans, raising new concerns about spying affecting civil liberties.

Bulgaria is classified as a "free" country in the latest Freedom House report on democracy and freedoms around the world.

Bulgaria has 79 points out of 100, one point more than last year (78). According to the rating for political rights, Bulgaria has 33 points out of 40 possible, and according to the rating for civil liberties - 40 out of 60 possible.

Freedom House, an American organization dedicated to supporting and defending democracy around the world, publishes its annual report on the state of democracy and civil liberties in countries around the world for 2019.  

Bulgaria, as well as most EU countries, is free, according to the announced annual ranking of the authoritative non-governmental organization Freedom House - "Freedom in the World 2018", according to BGNews.

Bulgaria ranks as "Free" according to Freedom in the World 2017, Freedom House's annual report on political rights and civil liberties.

Turkey suffered the largest decline in freedoms among 195 countries over the past year, an annual report published by the Washington-based Freedom House showed on Jan. 31.

In Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu's Jan. 14 statement, there were a few sentences that anyone with a sober mind and an understanding of civil liberties, freedom of expression, and intellectuals' right to engage in affairs could approve of.

Bulgaria occupies the 41st position in the latest edition of the Human Freedom Index - a global measurement of personal, civil and economic freedom ranking 152 countries on a scale from 0 to 10, where 10 represents more freedom.

Bulgaria had a freedom index of 7.8 in 2012, with a personal freedom of 8.21 and economic freedom measuring 7.39.
