Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau traveled to Florida on Friday for a dinner with Donald Trump at the president-elect's Mar-a-Lago estate, as the incoming U.S. leader promised tariffs on Canadian imports.

President-elect Donald Trump said that Mexico's leader had agreed to "stop" migration in talks Wednesday, effectively closing the southern U.S. border, in claims that went further than his counterpart's account of a discussion about migration "strategy."

Mexico's new President Claudia Sheinbaum has promised to protect the rights of investors as she took office as the country's first woman leader, following a backlash over recent judicial reforms.

"I say this very clearly, be assured that the investments of national and foreign shareholders will be safe in our country," Sheinbaum said in an inaugural speech in Congress.

A stage collapsed in northern Mexico on Wednesday as strong winds gusted through a presidential candidate's campaign rally, leaving at least nine people dead and around 50 others injured, authorities said.

With the selection of former Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum as the candidate of the country's ruling party in next June's election, Mexico will for the first time have time two women from its main political movements competing for the presidency.
