CEZ's Fault Leaves Half of Sofia in the Dark for 6 Hours

A massive technical fault of energy utility CEZ left downtown Sofia in the dark from 4 to 10 pm yesterday, reported Standart News. 

The company's operators were bombarded with thousands of phone calls from citizens in the affected quarters of Orlandovtsi, Yavorov and Hadzhi Dimitar and were constantly delaying the provisional time of power supply restoration.

Australian government releases “guide” to dealing with terrorism

The Federal Government has released a “tool kit” for venue operators to assess the vulnerability of their site and better protect it against a potential terrorist attack.
It outlined a blueprint for “layered security” at venues, including CCTV, X-ray screening and physical barriers like bollards to prevent vehicle attacks at crowded places like shopping centres and sports stadiums.

Vandals who smashed metro ticket machines identified

Using CCTV images, the police managed to identify the three men who used a sledgehammer to smash the new ticket machines that have been installed at Omonia metro station in central Athens. The attack took place on May 2 and led to eight new machines, designed to accept electronic tickets that are not yet in use, being destroyed, along with two existing ticket machines and an ATM screen.

The Bulgarian who kicked a woman down a flight of stairs at an underground station in Berlin in October 2016, was sentenced to 35 months of imprisonment by a German court, DPA reported on 6 July, quoted by BNT. 

The incident was recorded from Hermannstrasse CCTV cameras. The attacker was identified and soon arrested. The incident caused a storm of outrage in Germany.

Taxi driver crashes into four pedestrians after allegedly using bonzai

A taxi-driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into four pedestrians in Istanbul's central Beyoğlu district after allegedly using bonzai, a cheap and addictive synthetic drug, local media reports said. 

The incident occurred on June 25 but was reported three days later after footage emerged from nearby surveillance cameras. 

Fuel stolen from trucks on Crete

Authorities in Iraklio on the island of Crete on Monday were seeking the perpetrators who siphoned off around a ton of fuel from two trucks belonging to a local cement company.

Employees of the firm noticed that the fuel had been removed from the vehicles early on Monday morning though it remained unclear exactly when the theft occurred.
