Netflix to cut bite of data traffic in Turkey

As data cables buckle under a heavier load, streaming service Netflix announced on March 27 that it is set to reduce its share of telecommunications traffic in Turkey and elsewhere by 25 percent.

The statement came amid the global coronavirus outbreak, which first emerged in Wuhan, China last December and has spread to over 176 countries and regions.

Worldwide sales of music have increased by nearly 10% in 2018,  being the fourth consecutive year of growth thanks to online streaming platforms. However, downloads and physical sales continue to fall.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry reports in its global music report that profits for 2018 have reached $ 19.1 billion.

Google and Apple Report Jump in Requests for User Data

US government requests to Google for individuals' data reached a six-year high in the first half of 2017, the company says.

A report published last week said the country had sought details about 48,902 accounts - 24% more than over the last six months of 2016.

Apple reported a 62% jump in the number of user account requests from the US over the same period - 6,407 in total.

Most Turkish computers use pirate programs: Microsoft official

Nearly two-thirds of the computers in Turkey are running on pirated software, a senior Microsoft executive said March 21, adding that it put devices at greater risk of attack.      

"Sixty-two percent of computer users in Turkey are using pirated software," Cavit Yantaç, the company's deputy general manager in Turkey, told state-run Anadolu Agency.
