Master woodworker wants to open museum for his collection
Bekir Başar, a retired woodworker living in the northwestern province of Sakarya, wants the antiques he has collected over the years to be transferred to future generations at a museum.
Having been interested in collecting antique items since his childhood, the 58-year-old Başar started to collect antiques by visiting vintage dealers, scrap dealers and flea markets all over Turkey.
Meteorite found on chickpea field sold for $180,000
A farmer in the Central Anatolian province of Çorum has agreed to sell a 68-kg "meteorite," which he found on his field two years ago, to a buyer in the United States for $180,000.
Farmer Mutlu Yılmaz came across a large rock while planting chickpeas in his field in the village of Gerdekkaya in April 2019.
Ottoman dramas increase interest in antique objects
Demand for swords and knives in the antiques sector has increased thanks to the popular Ottoman TV series, according to antique collector Ercan Eroğlu.
"Real antiques have come to light. The market is very active now," he added.
