Table tennis: Romania's women's team qualifies for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Romania's women's table tennis team qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Friday, after defeating India, 3-2, in the decisive match of the 2020 ITTF World Team Qualification Tournament in Gondomar (Portugal). The victory point was brought by Daniela Monteiro Dodean, who defeated Manika Batra, the best Indian player, 3-1 (11-8, 11-4, 3-11, 11-2).

Anthony Ivanov Ranks 8th at the World Swimming Championship in China

Anthony Ivanov ranks eighth in the 200m butterfly finals at the world swimming championship in a small swimming pool in Hangzhou, China. He finished with a time of 1: 52.40 minutes.

In the series, Ivanov achieved 1: 51.81 minutes, improving his own national record in the discipline.

Serbian women's shooting team wins bronze in Granada

GRANADA - Serbia won bronze in the Women's 10m Air Rifle team event at the world shooting championship in Granada, Spain.

Team Serbia comprising Andrea Arsovic, Ivana Maksimovic and Katarina Bisercic won the bronze medal with a score of 1,244.3.

The gold medal went to Germany (1,253.6), and silver to the national team of China (1,250.5).

Shelley wins marathon as Aussies top Commonwealth medals table

Australian Michael Shelley won gold in the men’s marathon at the Commonwealth Games on July 27 to better his silver-medal showing in Delhi four years ago.

Shelley clocked a personal best of 2:11.15 in Glasgow, his first marathon of the year.
Kenya’s Stephen Chemlany  claimed silver in 2:11.58.

Commonwealth Games open in colourful, moving ceremony

Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the 20th Commonwealth Games at Celtic Park on Wednesday after a moving and colourful ceremony in front of a 40,000 capacity crowd.
     
The Games will feature 17 sports across 11 days of competition with more than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations competing, making the event the biggest Scotland has ever hosted.
      

Arunovic shoots her way to gold at Maribor World Cup

MARIBOR - Serbia's Zorana Arunovic won the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Woman event at the 2014 ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pistol in Maribor, Slovenia, on Thursday.

Russia's Ekaterina Korshunova and Bulgaria's Antoaneta Boneva finished second and third, respectively.

This is the second World Cup gold medal for Arunovic, who pocketed her first one in Munich two years ago.
