Ethnic Kurd arrested; wanted in Turkey for terrorist action

Police have arrested a Turkish citizen, an ethnic Kurd, wanted for membership in a terrorist organization.

The 41-year-old had gone to the police's aliens' division in Athens to renew his asylum request papers; when the officer entered his name an INTERPOL Red Notice appeared, asking for his arrest.

Elderly father who ended hunger strike after 90 days taken to hospital in Istanbul

A father in the eastern province of Tunceli who ended his hunger strike after 90 days, demanding the return of the remains of his dead son, has been taken to hospital in Istanbul. 

Kemal Gün ended his hunger strike after finally receiving his son's bones on May 26.

Turkish military launches operation to 'neutralize' 400 PKK militants in Turkey's east

The Turkish military has launched a security operation to "neutralize" 400 outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Tunceli.

Turkish authorities use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply the militants in question were either killed, incapacitated or captured.

Turkey's Supreme Court of Appeals upholds HDP co-chair's conviction

The Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals on Nov. 2 upheld a court ruling convicting Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ on charges of "terror propaganda" after she attended and delivered a speech at the funeral of Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) militant Yasemin Çiftçi in 2012.
