Police have arrested a Turkish citizen, an ethnic Kurd, wanted for membership in a terrorist organization.

The 41-year-old had gone to the police's aliens' division in Athens to renew his asylum request papers; when the officer entered his name an INTERPOL Red Notice appeared, asking for his arrest.

Turkey's interior minister said on Aug. 20 that the U.S. met with the outlawed terrorist Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) organization in Syria two weeks ago.     

Turkey has slammed Greece for refusing to extradite a member of the Turkish outlawed leftist group Turkish Communist Party/Marxist-Leninist (TKP/ML).

A former police chief and interior minister, Mehmet Ağar, has told a parliamentary commission investigating the July 15 coup attempt that all illegal organizations, like the Gülenist network, have had links with foreign intelligence services.

The Peoples' United Revolutionary Movement (HBDH), an umbrella organization recently formed by nine outlawed groups led by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has chosen senior PKK figure Duran Kalkan as its leader and outlined its aims to stage attacks and conduct political propaganda across Turkey, daily Milliyet has reported.  

One of the leading names of the Turkish communist movement, Rasih Nuri İleri, died at his home in Istanbul Dec. 6 morning at the age of 94. İleri's funeral will be held Tuesday at Bebek Mosque after noon prayers and his body will be laid to rest in the Aşiyan Cemetery.
