Ethnic Kurd arrested; wanted in Turkey for terrorist action

Police have arrested a Turkish citizen, an ethnic Kurd, wanted for membership in a terrorist organization.

The 41-year-old had gone to the police's aliens' division in Athens to renew his asylum request papers; when the officer entered his name an INTERPOL Red Notice appeared, asking for his arrest.

The Peoples' United Revolutionary Movement (HBDH), an umbrella organization recently formed by nine outlawed groups led by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has chosen senior PKK figure Duran Kalkan as its leader and outlined its aims to stage attacks and conduct political propaganda across Turkey, daily Milliyet has reported.  

Veteran communist dies at 94

One of the leading names of the Turkish communist movement, Rasih Nuri İleri, died at his home in Istanbul Dec. 6 morning at the age of 94. İleri's funeral will be held Tuesday at Bebek Mosque after noon prayers and his body will be laid to rest in the Aşiyan Cemetery.
