Contempt of Congress

Peter Navarro, a White House trade advisor to former president Donald Trump, was found guilty Thursday of contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the panel that investigated the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

A federal jury in Washington found the 72-year-old Navarro guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress after a two-day trial.

Former Trump advisers Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino were held in contempt of Congress for their monthlong refusal to comply with subpoenas rendered by the House committee's investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Former president Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon expressed defiance on Nov. 15 after surrendering to the FBI to face charges of contempt of Congress after refusing to testify on the January 6 Capitol assault.

He accused President Joe Biden of having "ordered" the Justice Department to prosecute him.

Steve Bannon, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, was indicted on Nov. 12 on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress after he defied a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Congressional Democrats moved closer on May 6 to citing Attorney General William Barr for contempt of Congress over his failure to give them an unredacted version of the Mueller report, escalating a showdown with the White House.
