Greeks are putting their trust in pharmacists for flu vaccinations, and with the upcoming COVID vaccinations and distribution of colorectal cancer tests, pharmacists and their role in primary healthcare are being highlighted.

The latest health bulletin from the National Public Health Organization (NPHO) covers a variety of health topics, featuring questions about vaccinations directed to the Chair of the National Vaccination Committee, Professor Emerita of Pediatrics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Maria Theodoridou, along with her responses.

Disappointing data regarding the vaccination of the elderly, vulnerable individuals, and healthcare workers against COVID-19 shows that over 90% of 80-year-olds in Greece are unprotected against the pandemic virus, while only 4% of healthcare workers have received the vaccine.

Albert Bourla linked Pfizer‘s name with the containment effort of the COVID-19 pandemic and this is the piece of history that belongs to him definitively, objectively and beyond any objection or reservation.

Vaccinations for Covid-19 will, for the first time, be available at neighborhood pharmacies as of this fall, in an effort to simplify the process so that an ever larger part of the population can get the shot. 

Covid vaccinations will also continue to be administered at public health structures by appointment through the online platform emvolio.gov.gr. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday called on manufacturers to increase production of mpox vaccines to address the spread of a more dangerous strain of the virus, Clade 1b.

This strain has surged in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and other regions, prompting the WHO to declare a public health emergency of international concern on Wednesday.

There has been a lukewarm response from people aged 60 and over in Greece to the call of the scientific community and health authorities to get the updated vaccine against the coronavirus. 

According to AstraZeneca, the vaccine is being withdrawn for commercial reasons as it "has been overtaken by updated vaccines that address the new Covid-19 variants"

The decision comes amidst shifting demand dynamics and ongoing scrutiny surrounding the safety profile of the vaccine.

A recent study conducted by the sociological agency "Global Metrics" on behalf of UNICEF Bulgaria and the Ministry of Health sheds light on the attitudes of Bulgarian parents towards vaccination. The findings reveal that the fear of side effects is the primary factor driving some parents to refuse vaccination for their children.
