Wintry weather coming in many parts of Greece
A double cold spell is just around the corner, with storms, snowfall, gusty winds and a drop in temperature across most of the country, according to the national weather service, EMY.
In particular, the first wave is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, while the second will make its appearance on Friday and Saturday and is expected to be more severe.

Climber falls to his death in southern Crete
A 38-year-old climber fell to his death on Tuesday morning while attempting to cross a canyon in southern Crete.
The man, a Greek national, was among a group of climbers exploring Agiofarango when he fell onto the rocks below from a great height, a local news website reported. It was not clear what caused the fall.

Fire near Irakleio
A major Hellenic Fire Service operation is underway near the city of Irakleio on Crete on Monday to put out a fire that broke out in a grassy valley. There are no homes being threatened by the flames but the strong winds in the area have exacerbated the situation.

Crete’s Samaria Gorge set to reopen in May
The Samaria Gorge on the island of Crete will be ready to welcome visitors in May as the maintenance and restoration works of its main path have started, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The work is being implemented by the Management Unit of Samaria National Park and Protected Areas of Western Crete of the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency (NECCA).
