Criminal transmission of HIV

Tens of thousands demonstrated in major French cities on Nov. 23 against violence targeting women, as campaigners push for the country to learn from a mass rape trial that has shocked the public.

The European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday issued a scathing decision against Greece, rapping authorities for breaches of privacy, medical procedure and judicial due process, over a Health Ministry campaign in the spring of 2012 to name and shame sex workers who were found to be HIV positive after being forcibly tested for the disease.

An Istanbul court has rejected "murder" charges pressed by the mother of an HIV victim, who claimed that the virus was transmitted to her son by his religiously married wife, who hid her condition. 

Alexandria Vera a Texas teacher who admitted to repeatedly having sex with a 13 year old student and getting pregnant by the boy was sentenced to 10 years prison.

An Athens court on Friday exonerated 11 HIV positive women, three of whom have died, of the charge of intentionally infecting people while allegedly working as prostitutes.

The prosecutor at the trial said there was no evidence to suggest the women worked as prostitutes nor that they had unprotected sex with people, with the exception one of the defendants.
