Famous Cretan croc 'Sifis' found dead

Sifis, the elusive crocodile that had become something of an attraction since he was first spotted last July at the area of the Rivers' Dam near Rethimno, Crete, unfortunately didn't make it through the harsh winter.

The famous 'Cretan Croc' was found dead last Sunday, floating on the waters near the dam, according to www.goodnet .gr.

Crete crocodile to be relocated to tropical climes

A 2-meter-long crocodile whose presence has puzzled authorities and experts on the southern Aegean island of Crete will be captured and relocated, local authorities in the region of Rethymno decided on Tuesday.

The reptile was spotted by a fire patrol close to the Potami Dam on the Amari plain over the weekend.

Authorities in Rethymno, Crete, urged locals and visitors to be on the alert after a 2-meter-long crocodile was spotted by a fire patrol close to the Potami Dam on the Amari plain over the weekend.

A team of experts was expected to launch a search for the reptile at the end of the week, while local authorities banned swimming and were fencing off the area.
