Bulgaria Mulls Changing Requirements for New Foreign Business Registrations

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has put forward amendments to the law which sets out requirements for foreign nationals who wish to start a business in the country.

Changes will include conditions under which long-term business visas will be issued to foreign nationals.

Bulgarian Police Arrests 107 Illegal Immigrants in Sofia

The police arrested 107 illegal immigrants in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, the press service of the interior ministry informs.

The first group consisting of 49 foreign citizens, including a woman and three children, were detained in the Moderno predgradie (Modern suburb) neighbourhood.

The illegal immigrants claimed to be citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Romania Offers Quick Citizenship to Foreign Stars

Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc said Romania was introducing a simplified citizenship procedure for high-achieving foreigners "with special performances in sports, culture or other areas".

Under the current law, to get Romanian citizenship you must live in the country for at least eight years or be married to a Romanian citizen for at least five years.

New population forecasts from the UN point to a global population spurt from 7.3 billion to 9.7 billion in 2050 – 100 million more than estimated by the UN’s last report two years ago. More than half this growth comes from Africa that is set to double its population rate. In Europe, the average age will rise from 30 to 36 in 2050 and 42 in 2100.
