Bulgaria has achieved limited progress in the judiciary, the forthcoming EU Commission report on the country says according to media reports.

The forthcoming EU Commission report under the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (CVM), will be more positive for Romania than for Bulgaria, European sources say.

Bucharest should expect a text suggesting improvement in 2014 compared to 2013, according to the information cited by Mediafax and Romania Insider.

Bulgaria is facing a serious threat of lagging further behind Romania after a "very critical" report from the EU Commission this month, a co-leader of the senior coalition partner Reformist Bloc believes.

MEP Monica Macovei on Tuesday stated, in reference to previous statements made by President Klaus Iohannis, that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism [CVM] should stay in place until all political blockages in the flow of justice are eliminated.

French ambassador to Bulgaria Xavier Lapeyere de Cabanes, said there were no signs that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) applied to Bulgaria and Romania might come to an end.
