On November 1, Bulgaria commemorates a unique observance of All Saints' Day, known locally as the Day of the People's Awakeners. This holiday is dedicated not only to Christian saints but also to the great writers, educators, and national heroes who contributed to Bulgaria's spiritual and cultural revival.

A significant fire broke out in central Sofia last night, affecting a three-story house located at the intersection of "Bratya Miladinovi" and "St. St. Cyril and Methodius." The smoke from the fire spread to nearby buildings, with residents in the area around Hristo Botev Blvd. able to feel its impact.

During his speech at the National Library, President Radev acknowledged the concerns voiced by universities through protests. He highlighted the global trend of countries prioritizing investments in science and education, cautioning against neglecting the potential of Bulgarian scientists, teachers, and researchers.

The US embassy in Bulgaria has extended its congratulations on today's special holiday. "Happy May 24, Happy Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature," the message begins.

Russia's ambassador to Bulgaria, Eleonora Mitrofanova, extended heartfelt congratulations to all Bulgarians on the shared celebration of the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture.

May 24 holds significant cultural and historical importance for Bulgarians, marking the celebration of the Bulgarian Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literature Day, known as "Saints Cyril and Methodius Day." This day commemorates the brothers Cyril and Methodius, who are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, which later evolved into the Cyrillic script.

Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev and a delegation accompanying him were granted an audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican. During the meeting, President Radev presented Pope Francis with an original icon of Saints Cyril and Methodius, crafted by artists from the Sofia Icon Painting School in the latter half of the 19th century.

In preparation for May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, as well as the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and Slavic Literature, the National Security Service is implementing security measures in Sofia's city center. The festivities will commence with a formal procession at 10:30 a.m., commencing from the Archaeological Museum.
