Czechia: Crisis Continues as Premier Rejects Minister Replacement

The Czech Republic's political crisis is nowhere near an end after Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka rejected a proposal for a new finance minister.

Sobotka asked President Milos Zeman to fire Finance Minister Andrej Babis, one of the country's richest people, over unexplained business dealings. Babis has denied wrongdoing, saying he won't resign.

The Czech prime minister, Bohuslav Sobotka of the Social Democrats, says he plans to inform the president of the resignation of his government by the end of the week. Making the surprise announcement on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Sobotka blamed the situation on ANO's Andrej Babiš, who he said could not remain in the post of minister of finance, Radio Praha reported, qoted by Focus News Agency.

Nikolic arrives in Prague, meets with Zeman

PRAGUE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Tuesday arrived on an official visit to the Czech Republic.

Nikolic was ceremonially welcomed by his counterpart Milos Zeman, with many citizens gathering outside the presidential palace in Prague to see their encounter, Nikolic's presidential press office said in a statement.

Bulgaria 'Counts on Czech Support' for Schengen Entry

The Czech Republic has thrown its support behind Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area, its Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has said, according to the press office of his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Plevneliev.

The Bulgarian head of state is on a two-day visit to Prague, having met with Czech counterpart Milos Zeman on Monday.
