Under the theme "A World at Breaking Point: Managing Crises and Transformations", the 8th annual TRT World Forum 2024, a prominent global event organized by TRT, continues to influence the global agenda. In the opening session, TRT Director General Mehmet Zahid Sobacı stated: "We are facing a crisis more devastating and destructive than any we have known. This crisis is a crisis of conscience.

The European Union has recalled its ambassador from Moscow after leaders on the continent threw their weight behind Theresa May's stance over the Salisbury attack. Several EU member states were poised to announce expulsions of diplomats, in a bid to dismantle Vladimir Putin's spy network.

The US has approved the sale of 200 offensive and defensive missiles to Finland, which is not a member of NATO and borders with Russia, the State Department said.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov congratulated Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on his will for his country's Euro-Atlantic integration and encouraged him to continue negotiations with Greece to resolve the issue with the name of the state, reported BGNES.

The EU summit on the refugee crisis begins in a reluctant atmosphere, with President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė  saying that the agreement to be reached with Turkey would be “complex and at the limits of international law”.

Arriving at the meeting, Mrs. Grybauskaitė  told reporters that “we will agree on something. We will negotiate with the same conditions agreed last week”.

With fighter jets roaring overhead, NATO has inaugurated a military center in the Lithuanian capital amid growing regional concerns over Russia's military presence, sparked by the fighting in Ukraine.

A move in Russia to review the legality of a 1991 decision formally granting Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia independence from the Soviet Union has alarmed the Baltic States and stoked tensions in ties with Moscow. 

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite signed on Monday a legal amendment, which reintroduces military conscription in the country.

The bill had already been approved on Thursday with an overwhelming majority at Lithuania's Seimas with 112 MPs voting in favour, the National Radio and Television informs.

Lithuania considers reintroducing military conscription in view of the changed geopolitical situation.

This was discussed at a meeting of the State Defence Council, which brings together Lithuania's President, Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker, Minister of Defence and Chief of Defence.
