Another Six Pelicans Die at Bulgaria's Srebarna Nature Reserve

Six pelicans have been found dead at the Srebarna nature reserve in northeastern Bulgaria on Monday, BTA news agency reported.

The cause of the death wasn't immediately known.

The find takes to 27 the dead bodies of pelicans found in the nature reserve, a World Heritage Site located on a freshwater lake of 900 hectares on the border with Romania.

The incident happened at the end of the workday on Monday, according to reports of local police, as cited by the Bulgarian National Television.

Romania Seeks EU Cash For Danube Delta Tourism

Romania aims to lure some 1 billion in European funds to develop infrastructure and tourism in the Danube Delta by 2020, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Thursday.

The cash - if it comes - will go on "infrastructure development, preserving biodiversity and on tourism development in the Danube Delta," Ponta said at the opening of Romania's Tourism Fair.

Bulgaria, Romania to Attract Asian Tourists with Common Product

Bulgaria and Romania are to attract tourists from the more distant Asian countries through the development of a common tourist product.

This was announced by Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova on Tuesday, BGNES news agency reports.

Angelkova also revealed that the two countries plan to open a joint tourist office until the end of the year.

Danube River Not Affected by Polution

There water of the Danube River has not been affected by any pollution. The announcement was made by the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters on Friday.

The cause for the suspicion that the water might be affected came after a transport vehicle with 850 tons of chemical fertilizers on board sank on February 11.

Barge Carrying Fertilisers Sinks in Romanian Port on Danube River

A barge carrying 850 tonnes of fertilisers on board sank in the Romanian port of Moldova Veche on Wednesday, while conducting manoeuvres.

The Romanian port lies approximately 200 kilometres upstream from the beginning of the Bulgarian section of the Danube and 250 kilometres from the town of Vidin.
