Former FinMin Valcov admits 1.5 million euro bribe, Supreme Court rejects his arrest

The High Court of Cassation and Justice (Romania's Supreme Court) rejected on Tuesday the request of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) to arrest former Finance Minister Darius Valcov. DNA can appeal this ruling.

Ex FinMin Darius Valcov's paintings to undergo expert assessment, might next go on display

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) confirmed having identified 101 paintings former Finance Minister Darius Valcov had acquired via go-betweens; the works of art will undergo expert assessment and will be further placed in the custody of a specialist institution that will be able to put them on display.

Romanian Parliament Votes Approval for Former FinMin's Arrest

The Romanian National Directorate (DNA) has requested that that the former Finance Minister Darius Valcov should be arrested.

Local Senate has officially approved the request, after Valcov himself appeared in front of MPs and made a statement that he would welcome a lawsuit as it will be a chance for him to prove his innocence, as reported by Romania Insider.

In a 97-to-48 secret vote with 5 votes cancelled, the Senate plenum approved on Wednesday the taking into custody and placement under preventive detention of the former Finance Minister, Senator Darius Valcov in an influence peddling case.

Romanian Prosecutors Detain Anticorruption Chief

The chief of Romania's National Integrity Agency (ANI) Horia Georgescu has been taken into custody by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on Monday.

Georgescu was transferred to the detention facility of Bucharest prison after having been heard at the DNA office, AGERPRES news agency reports.
