U.S. Ambassador in Athens David Pearce on Monday said he was in favour of debt relief for Greece stressing the country’s importance as an energy hub a a transit centre for trade goods.

The mayor of Thessaloniki Yiannis Boutaris had a courtesy meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Greece David Pearce and the U.S. Consul General Rebecca Fong in his office on Friday.

During the meeting, Boutaris referred to the refugee crisis, Thessaliniki’s touristic development and its investment potential. The meeting was also attended by deputy mayor Spyros Pegas.

US Ambassador to Greece David Pearce will host a Declaration of Independence reception on July 2, as July 4 falls on a Sunday.

Recently there had been rumors that Pearce would leave his post in Greece early, even in June, but this has proved not to be the case.

Pearce will remain as the US ambassador to Greece.
