New fines established for hunting endangered species
The country's nature conservation body has announced the fines for hunting endangered species, which are off-limits for the 2024-2025 season.
The list of protected wild creatures prepared by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks' Central Hunting Commission features mammals, reptiles and birds.
Kalamata: A deer was pulled dead from the sea in Almyros
Swimmers were confronted with a sad sight in the sea on Monday morning in the area of Almiros in Kalamata.
They found that a deer was found dead in the sea, with the cause of death not yet known.
The coast guard was immediately alerted, which in turn informed the OAK Messinia.

Court cancels red deer hunt tender
The tender for hunting a total of 20 red deer in central Anatolian provinces of Eskişehir, Afyonkarahisar, Denizli and Kütahya was canceled by the Afyonkarahisar Administrative Court upon the application of Eskişehir Animal Protection Association President Attorney Gülçin Yapıcı.

Wildlife park draws visitors despite pandemic
The Ormanya Wildlife Park in the northwestern province of Kocaeli hosted 5 million visitors despite the coronavirus pandemic last year.
Kocaeli Mayor Tahir Büyükakın said that Ormanya, located in Kartepe district, opened in May 2018. With a spectacular natural habitat, Ormanya welcomes millions of visitors each year, becoming Turkey's most visited one.

Rhodes planning to control deer overpopulation
The number of "platoni," a subspecies of fallow deer (Dama dama), living in forested areas of the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes has jumped from around 200 a few years ago to more than 5,000, according to a recent census conducted as part of a plan for their management, in response to the problem caused by their overpopulation, mainly in terms of crop damage.

Fallow deer habitat grows in Turkey

Number of endangered fallow deer increases from seven to 500
The number of fallow deer, whose natural population continued only in the resort town of Antalya and remained at only seven about half a century ago, reached 500 after a protection project was launched.
A project has been going on for more than half a century to increase the population of fallow deer among endangered species.
Baby roe deer with broken leg found in northern Greek forest
A roe deer calf just a few days old was found with a broken leg by hunters on Mount Paiko, in northern Greece, and taken to the Arcturos wildlife shelter for treatment, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
The animal, named Thomas by its saviors, was first taken by the hunters to a vet in Giannitsa.
