Apollo’s other home on Despotiko

After 21 years of excavations on the uninhabited Aegean islet of Despotiko, some 28 nautical miles south of Delos, archaeologists say there is still much more to discover. Meanwhile, work continues to restore columns and other architectural structures on the site which is expected to open to visitors in about two years.

The Ephorate of Antiquities for the Cycladic Islands and the NEON cultural organization present "The Palace at 4 a.m.," an exhibition of works by 13 artists from different parts, inspired by Delos, one of the ancient world's most cosmopolitan and sacred locations, and the collection of the Myconos Archaeological Museum.

Delos' only drinks kiosk closed over unpaid rent

Unpaid rent amounting to more than 100,000 euros owed by the businessmen running the sole kiosk offering beverages on the island of Delos has forced its temporary closure, according to the Culture Ministry.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry added that until the kiosk reopens, members of the NEON organization will provide visitors with bottled water.

The Epigraphical Museum presents an exhibition titled "Public Works in Ancient Times," comprising eight tablets inscribed with important information concerning the construction of public buildings in Athens, Delos and Eretria. Running parallel with the exhibition is a show titled "Monuments," featuring works by French artist Natacha Mankowski inspired by the architecture of ancient Greece.

Dig unearths more of Apollo sanctuary on Despotiko

An aerial photograph of the archaeological dig on Despotiko, a tiny uninhabited islet west of Antiparos, in the Cyclades. Archaeologists conducting an excavation at the site, which hosts the remains of an 8th century BC temple of Apollo, unearthed three additional structures between late May and early July, raising the total to 22, the Culture Ministry said.

First presented at Athens's Byzantine and Christian Museum last winter, "Cycladic Snapshots: Monuments and their People" tells the stories of many of the archaeologists, photographers, art conservators and architects who worked at excavations on the sacred UNESCO World Heritage site of Delos in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Stoa of Philip restoration under way on Delos

A crane at the site of the Stoa of Philip, which is undergoing restoration on the island of Delos, is seen in this photo released by the Culture Ministry on Thursday. The imposing stoa was constructed by Philip V of Macedonia in 210 BC in honor of Apollo. It is 72 meters long and 11 meters wide, and was once supported by 16 Doric columns.
