Police reaffirms search for missing US tourist

Greek authorities on Thursday confirmed they are carrying on with the search for an American tourist who has been missing since Tuesday on the remote Aegean island of Amorgos.

"Social media posts claiming the cessation of the police investigation are false," the statement said, responding to allegations that the search had been called off.

Coast guard find 209 kilos of cannabis on truck from Italy

A truck driver is expected to appear before a prosecutor after coast guard officers found 209 kilograms of cannabis in his vehicle as it arrived on a passenger ferry at the port of Igoumenitsa from Italy.

In an announcement, the coast guard said a drug sniffer dog, Vlad, had detected the drugs, which were wrapped in 193 plastic bags and placed in paper boxes.

Sniffer dog ‘Volta’ retires after 10 years of service

A sniffer dog named Volta has retired after serving for ten years in the gendarmerie forces in the western province of Manisa.

The Pointer breed dog's carrier in the gendarmerie forces began in 2011.

Volta assisted the local anti-smuggling and organized crime squad in the province of Manisa in 2016.

More than 200 kg of marijuana seized in eastern Turkey

Turkish security forces on Dec. 31 seized 202 kilograms (445 pounds) of marijuana in the country's east, according to the provincial governor's office.

The drugs were seized in a stream bed in Genç in the Bingöl province in a sniffer dog-aided operation, said a statement.

It added that the fight against illicit drugs would continue across the province.

Sniffer dogs in Turkey's Antalya find 'space cake' in luggage of passenger from Amsterdam

Customs officials have seized a cake cooked with drugs, dubbed a "space cake," at the airport in the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya, the Customs Ministry stated on Aug. 4. 

Illegal substances were found in the luggage of a passenger arriving from the Dutch capital Amsterdam after sniffer dogs alarmed the police, the statement read. 

Around 200 detained in Ankara's biggest anti-drug operation

Around 200 suspects have been detained after a huge dawn sweep marked as the city's largest ever anti-drug operation by Ankara's narcotics police on June 20, police have said, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.     
Ankara Police Chief Mahmut Karaaslan told reporters following the raids that the number of detentions was a record rate for a single police operation in Turkey.

Turkey's first cynology conference has revealed that the use of K-9 unit police dogs has surged in the country due the recent increase in security operations and terror threats.

Osman Öztürk, head of CSG-City Security Group, a private security company, said at the Istanbul event on Dec. 23 the need for specially-trained dogs was "increasing day-by-day."

Chara Sniffs out 20 kg Heroin Haul at Bulgaria's Border with Turkey

A sniffer dog serving with Bulgaria's Customs Agency has discovered over 20.4 kilogrammes of heroin in a car crossing from Turkey at Lesovo checkpoint, the agency announced on Tuesday.

"Inspector" Chara, a golden retriever trained to discover narcotic substances, found the heroin hidden in a secret compartment beneath the driver's seat of a Bulgaria-registered car.
