Distress signal

A distress signal was sent out on Friday afternoon from a vessel located south of Paxos. According to ERT, the signal was transmitted via VHF radio, prompting an immediate response from the coast guard.

The private vessel is experiencing controlled water ingress south of Paxos, but the occupants are not in danger.

Off the coast of Lesvos, the Bulgarian border ship "Balchik" has rescued 44 migrants, including 10 children, who were in distress. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed the successful rescue, which took place on Wednesday morning following a distress signal.

A sailboat with about 60 people on board some 100 kilometers off Pylos on Greece's southern coast was spotted on Friday by Italian authorities, who informed their Greek counterparts. 

The vessel did not send a distress signal, and was, reportedly, sailing normally. 

It was reportedly being monitored by the authorities, according to state broadcaster ERT.

The Japanese Coast Guard said Sunday that rescue helicopters found nine of the 26 people from a tour boat missing in the frigid waters of northern Japan since the day before, but their conditions are unknown.

Authorities believe the vessel to be carrying an unknown number of migrants and were unable to give any additional details.

A ship that issued a distress signal off the west of Corfu on Tuesday is believed to be carrying undocumented migrants, with Greek authorities investigating concerns that some of the passengers may be armed.
