First diving took place on June 15 to a passenger plane lowered into the sea a day earlier in northwestern Turkey to boost scuba diving tourism.       

Near the northern Greek island of Alonissos lies a remarkable ancient shipwreck: the remains of a massive cargo ship that changed archaeologists' understanding of shipbuilding in antiquity.

Now this spectacular find is to become the first ancient shipwreck to be made accessible to the public in Greece, including to recreational divers.

The twin-engine bomber lay undisturbed in the depths off Icaria in the eastern Aegean for 72 years until a team of divers discovered the old fighter plane on the seabed, 18 meters beneath the waves.

Authorities on the eastern Aegean island of Chios have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old professional diver who drowned during an underwater cleanup on Friday.

According to local media, the 47-year-old had been diving with another man who noticed his partner's absence after returning to the surface.

World free diving female champion Derya Can has broken a Guinness World Record with a 120-meter horizontal apnea dive in an ice-covered lake. 

Holding her breath under the 35-centimeter ice-coated Weissensee lake in Austria, Can managed to swim 120 meters in 1 minute 47 seconds.
