The bill also includes a ban on "gratuity" payments to doctors that have plagued the health service for the last 70 years, undermining general trust in the system and giving patients the illusion that by tipping doctors they would receive favourable treatment in public hospitals.

The easiest thing to be in the face of such a combination of difficult situations is indignant. Greece, however, is standing on its feet thanks to the fortitude and selflessness of those who did not look for excuses for the country's systemic failings.

Romania will send to Italy, in the Milan area, a team of 11 doctors and six nurses, President Klaus Iohannis announced on Monday. "I have decided (...) that Romania will send a team of doctors and nurses to Italy. They will go there to the Milan area. They will leave tomorrow [Tuesday] at the latest. A group of Turkish doctors and nurses have traveled to the Central American country of Guatemala to volunteer to perform free medical surgeries for the ill and needy.
