Ukraine claims destroyed Russian planes in overnight drone attack
Ukraine said Friday it had destroyed at least six Russian military planes at an airbase in the southern Rostov region in a barrage of overnight drone attacks.
Kiev launched once of its largest overnight attacks in weeks, firing more than 50 drones at Russian territory, according to Russia's defence ministry.
The final blow was struck: Russian A-50s were ground down
First, a Ukrainian drone damaged an A-50 on the ground in Belarus last year. Subsequently, on January 14, a Ukrainian long-range missile shot down an A-50 over the Sea of Azov in southern Ukraine. Six weeks later, on February 23, in the same area, another Ukrainian missile destroyed the third A-50, writes Forbes.

The sound of an explosion was heard in the city of Taganrog in the Rostov region, residents reported in the city's VKontakte group. Russian media reports that the city was hit by rockets.
According to the citizens of Tagnarog, "car alarms were howling and windows were rattling."
The explosion was also heard in the city center.

The Moscow-appointed leader of Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, said on his Telegram channel on Wednesday morning that two children were among those injured in attacks on the city taken by Russian forces in 2014.

Russia says toll from Ukraine strike rises to 89
The toll from a Ukrainian New Year strike in Makiivka has risen to 89, Moscow said Wednesday, after Russians gathered to mourn the troops in a rare public display of anger and grief.
Russia said in the early hours of Wednesday that more bodies had been found under the rubble in the town of Makiivka in the Russian-controlled region of Donetsk and the toll had risen to 89.
