Severe problems were caused by the heavy downpour that hit Rhodes earlier Wednesday afternoon as part of the “Atena” storm. The heavy rainfall caused significant difficulties for traffic within the city.

Kifissos riverbed damage stokes concern
Serious damage to the underground bed of the Kifissos River in Athens has been identified by a team of speleologists.
The team was conducting an underground expedition and had reached a section beneath the Kifissou KTEL bus terminal, when they came across a hill of trash and debris as well as a lake that may have formed as a result of the bottom being destroyed.

Rain batters country, pounds Istanbul hardest
Torrential rains have lashed several parts of Türkiye, with the metropolitan city of Istanbul bearing the brunt the most as its world-famous Grand Bazaar has filled with flood water.
Following the torrential rain warnings issued for 17 provinces, including Istanbul, the expected rain hit the metropolitan city on Aug. 15.

Storms wreak damage in western Greece
A weather front dubbed "Victoria" on Wednesday brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to Attica and other parts of the country, along with hailstorms in some areas, wreaking the greatest damage in western Greece and on Crete.

Thessaloniki authorities deal with fallout of floods, water quality problems
Efforts were under way on Friday to restore water supplies to Thessaloniki after a heavy downpour on Thursday affected the quality of local drinking water.
The city's water board (EYATH) was temporarily suspending water supplies in different parts of the city - chiefly the center and western districts - as efforts proceeded to improve the quality.
Passengers escape sinking bus (video)
A video uploaded on social media shows a public bus with passengers being swept away in the town of Koufalia, in the Peloponnese, by the raging waters during the torrential downpour that struck most Greece, Tuesday. The passengers managed to escape from the vehicle’s rooftop.
