Two light injuries, limited damages from Athens quake

Two old buildings reportedly collapsed in Athens and two people were lightly injured after the 5.1-magnitude earthquake that hit the Greek capital on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The Seismological Center of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki said the quake, which struck at 2:13 p.m., was close to the surface, which explains why it was widely felt in the Greek capital.

Docked ship in Drapetsona catches fire

Fire fighting crews were called at Piraeus' Drapetsona suburb on Thursday to put out a fire that started on a ship docked at the pier.
Twenty-five firemen with eight vehicles were at the port's new dock.
According to the fire service, the blaze started inside the ship while crew members were inside. There were no reports of injuries.

Drapetsona a step closer to getting a park

The Attica Regional Council has expropriated a 20-hectare plot belonging to the National Bank of Greece, paving the way for Piraeus' Drapetsona suburb to get its first proper park.
Along with several parcels of land already owned by the municipality, the new plot is seen as the necessary addition to launch an ambitious overhaul of an area that once housed a waste treatment plant.

Two men arrested over large quantity of heroin

A prosecutor in the port city of Piraeus is to question on Wednesday two men arrested in nearby Drapetsona the previous day over the discovery of a large cache of heroin.

The suspects, both Albanian nationals aged 37 and 48 respectively, were nabbed after police received a tip-off that they were part of a large drug-smuggling ring that operated in the broader Attica area.

Cab driver stabbed to death in Drapetsona

A 60-year-old taxi driver was brutally stabbed to death early Wednesday morning by an unknown assailant at the new pier in Drapetsona, southwest of Athens.

According to reports, a crew member of a cargo ship that had docked in the area saw the cab stop at the pier and two people inside the vehicle having a heated argument.
