Greenpeace Greece is stepping up a campaign to petition local authorities across the country to repair and/or install fountains and taps that will provide the public with free, clean drinking water.

As heatwaves - like the ones Greece has experienced this summer - become longer and more intense, modern cities like Athens need to develop new strategies in order to shield the city and its inhabitants from rising temperatures.

Public water reservoirs and drinking fountains, splash pads and fountains, pocket parks, green parking lots, trees and bushes in public spaces, sustainable mobility and reused buildings, starting with the public ones, are just some of the measures architect Petros Babasikas and his team recommend for Athens in the age of climate change.

The bronze statue of Apollo Medicus next to the mineral water fountains at the Central Bathhouse has been stolen, Sofia Regional Museum of History Director Assoc. Prof. Veneta Handzhiyska told Focus News Agency.
