Two photographs, one taken in 2018 and the other this year, of Lake Burdur, have shown how Türkiye's seventh largest lake is disappearing.

The lake came to the country's agenda when, in 2018, photographer Tamer Yılmaz shot an aerial photo of two streams leaking from small puddles in the dying areas of the lake.

Around 10,000 square meters of wetland have dried in Turkish Lakes Region in five decades due to pollution and the overuse of water, an expert of the Society of the Protection of Turkish Nature (TTKD) has said.

Turkey has lost 10 of its lakes in the last 30 years due to climate change, drought and wrong agricultural irrigation techniques, the head of a natural protection association has said.

Lake Eğirdir in the western province of Isparta has been shrinking at an alarming rate, with its average former depth of 16 meters having fallen to 6-7 meters this year, said the provincial representative of Turkey’s Protection of Nature Association on Nov. 12.
