Turkey on Feb. 23 condemned Israel's approval of the construction of hundreds of new Jewish-only housing units in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian envoy to the United States says he is returning to Washington after just one day of "consultations" over President Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, according to BBC. 

Husam Zomlot said he met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas privately.

He was instructed to return to Washington "immediately", he said.

Palestine's Foreign Ministry summoned Romania's envoy for explanations on Wednesday to clarify statements from the ruling Social Democratic Party leader Liviu Dragnea in which he supported moving Romania's Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Pope Francis used his Christmas message on Monday to call for a negotiated two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, after U.S. President Donald Trump stoked regional tensions with his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Reuters reported.

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution calling on the US to reverse its decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. One hundred and twenty eight countries backed the motion.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will travel to the U.S. on Dec. 20 to attend the voting on a draft resolution rejecting the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital at the United Nations, private broadcaster CNN Türk has reported.

The United Nations Security Council is due to vote on Monday on a draft resolution calling for the withdrawal of U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, diplomats said, a move likely to face a Washington veto, Reuters reported.
