Storm Bora inundates Greece as weather service issues alert for Tinos

An emergency alert via 112 has been issued for the Cycladic island of Tinos on Saturday, as a major storm sweeping in from the west pounded Greece, causing floods in several parts of the country. The message urged local residents to avoid traveling and follow the instructions of the authorities.

Greece braces for strong winds and heavy rain

A severe weather alert has been issued for Greece, predicting strong winds, a sharp temperature drop and heavy rain in certain regions from Sunday through Monday.

Winds of 7-9 Beaufort will hit the Ionian Sea and western Greece on Sunday, extending to central and eastern areas, including Crete, by afternoon. Winds will ease by midday Monday.

High fire risk forecast for Sunday in five regions

Greek authorities have issued a fire hazard warning for five regions on Sunday, as high temperatures continued to spark wildfires in several parts of the country.

According to the prediction map published by the Civil Protection Agency, the regions are considered to be at very high risk of wildfires, ranking at Level 4 (orange) out of a maximum of 5.

"Kleon," the scorching heatwave currently sweeping across the country, is set to continue on Saturday, with meteorologists predicting highs of 41 degrees Celsius in many areas of the country.

The pick up in the wind, which will reach force 7 in the Aegean from Sunday to Wednesday, will cause temperatures to drop slightly.
