Economic policy to continue as Central Bank's new head takes helm: Top officials

Fatih Karahan, a former senior economist at the U.S. online retail giant Amazon, was appointed as the new head of Türkiye's Central Bank to replace Hafize Gaye Erkan on Saturday, according to the Official Gazette.

Fatih Karahan's appointment follows the resignation of Erkan after less than a year in office.

2024: The super-election year

A few weeks ago, in its annual preview of the new year about to start, The Economist highlighted how important 2024 will be for democracy worldwide. The British magazine was one of the first voices to cast attention on the fact that in the next 12 months more than 70 countries will head to the polls.

Pearson says sells its share of The Economist Group

British publishing company Pearson on Aug. 12 said it had agreed to sell its 50-percent stake in The Economist Group, owner of prestigious magazine The Economist.

The share is being sold for 469 million ($730 million, 663 million euros), split between The Economist Group itself and Italian investment firm Exor, which is controlled by the Agnelli family, Pearson said in a statement.
