Hotels report a stifling year
Greek hotels have to deal with considerable losses of 1 billion euros from deposits not paid in 2020 for 2021 due to the pandemic and from debts that have not been collected, on top of the slump in revenues last year: Hotel turnover dropped 78% in 2020 to €1.83 billion, against €8.357 billion in 2019, according to a new survey.

Coronavirus: Development minister announces further easing of lockdown measures
Deputy Development and Investments Minister Nikos Papathanassis on Wednesday announced the further easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
According to Papathanassis, as of June 6 restaurants and other catering businesses can open indoor areas based on a specific health-safety protocol, including dining areas in hotels.
Production activity on Dacia industrial platform in Mioveni to be resumed Monday in both plants
The production activity on the Dacia industrial platform in southern Mioveni will be resumed on Monday, May 4, in both plants, according to a release of Groupe Renault Romania. On April 21, production activities in Dacia plants were partially resumed, on the basis of volunteering, in the Mechanic and Chassis Plant, as well as in the Vehicle Plant, in the Pressing Department.

French multinational Safran Group is reportedly examining the installation in Greece of a unit to repair, maintain and rebuild airplane and helicopter engines.

Turkey sees 42 percent rise in registered vehicles in January
The number of motor vehicle registrations in Turkey jumped 42.2 percent year-on-year to 94,540 vehicles in January, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced on Feb. 28.
"At the end of January, the total number of road motor vehicles registered reached 23.2 million," TÜİK said.
Novotel Sofia and ibis Sofia Commit to Elimination of Single-Use Plastics by 2022
The leading hotel group Accor announced its commitment to join the UN Global Tourism Plastics Initiative and to remove all single-use plastic items in guest experience from its hotels by the end of 2022. This decision will affect the local hotels managed by Accor - Novotel Sofia and ibis Sofia.
China Has 843 Five-Star Hotels
At the end of 2018, there were a total of 10,249 star hotels in China, 843 of which are five-star hotels, according to a report by the country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Gov’t races to jump-start stalled Elliniko project; no extension to casino bid
The government is rushing to jump-start the country's largest private investment, to develop the former airport at Elliniko.
Three ministerial decisions involving the park, the coastline development and the casino are expected to be approved by August 27, and a fourth, involving other construction, by August 30.
