The archaeological site at Varosi Square in Edesa, which contains parts of the city’s fortifications dating from the Hellenistic to the Late Byzantine periods, is set for restoration and enhancement.
Search for missing fisherman continues
The emergency services in the north of the country are continuing their search for 75-year-old fisherman who was reported missing after failing to return from a fishing trip on a lake.
Firefighters Ptolemaida and Edessa are already at the scene at Lake Vegoritida while a team of divers are expected to arrive from Thessaloniki.

Greek PM Mitsotakis tours Pella and Edessa
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is visiting Pella and Edessa on Tuesday, was given a tour of the Pella Museum and its archaeological site by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and the head of the local antiquities office, Elizabeth Tsigarida.

UNHCR calls for equal treatment of asylum seekers
Despite a dip in arrivals of migrants from Turkey in recent months, the number of asylum seekers in Greece is significant, totaling 120,000, according to data from the United Nations refugee agency that was made public on Wednesday.

Intercity bus crashes in northern Greece; 12 reported injured
A KTEL Intercity bus crashed into a metal barrier on the eastbound lane of the Thessaloniki-Edessa highway on Tuesday, injuring at least 12 people.
According to initial reports citing the EKAV ambulance service, nine women and three men ranging in age from 19 to 67 are being treated at two local hospitals for a range of breaks, bruises and more minor injuries.
Girl, 7, dies as car hits tree in northern Greece
A 7-year-old girl died when a car hit a tree in Pella, northern Greece, late Monday.
Two 35-year-old driver was taken to the Edessa General Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.
No other vehicle was involved. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Police find four children, three adults hidden in truck in northern Greece
Police in northern Greece say they found seven migrants — four of them children — hidden in a furniture truck whose driver allegedly had been paid to take them from Turkey to Germany.
The police force in Thessaloniki said the people on the truck were from Syria and Iraq, and the driver allegedly received 1,500 euros ($1,700) for each of the seven passengers.
Police arrest man convicted of arson
Police in Pella, in northern Greece, have arrested a 44-year-old man who was earlier this year sentenced to two years in prison on arson-related charges.
The 44-year-old was found guilty of arson by an Edessa court after starting a fire in the village of Promachoi in Pella in 2013 which subsequently burned 0.2 hectares of land.
No further information was immediately available.
