School’s back from summer
The excitement accompanying the start of new school which this year starts on Wednesday is somewhat tempered by the permanent tug-of-war between the leadership of the Ministry of Education on the one hand, and the teachers and their trade union representatives on the other over lower wages and departmental mergers.

Ministry announces new university admission grades
The Education Ministry on Wednesday announced the minimum grades high school graduates will need to score in their final exams to enter university at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year.
The minimum scores on the nationwide university entrance exams vary between departments.

Grade inflation is often due to parental pressure
More than one in four secondary school pupils is an A student. At least in theory.
The threshold of excellence, 18 out of 20 in the scale in use in Greek high schools, was attained by 179,580 students out of a total of 680,000 last academic year, Education Ministry data show.

Greek universities admit nearly 62,000 students
Minimum admission scores for Greek universities were announced Thursday, allowing 61,950 out of the 97,205 who applied to secure a place.

Bulgarian Schools: Tests for On-site Studying have been provided for All Students starting December 6
Late last night, another 90,000 tests for COVID-19 for students arrived at the warehouse of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC), the Ministry of Education announced. Today they are distributed in schools. Thus, the shortage of tests for students from grades 1 to 12, who will return to class on December 6, has been reduced to 60,000.
A new decision for schools
Just to reiterate, the Ministry of Education issues a statement every Friday based on the epidemiological situation about which schools will attend classes next week and according to which model.

Canada: Bodies at Indigenous school not isolated incident
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on May 31 it's not an isolated incident that over 200 children were found buried at a former Indigenous residential school.
Trudeau's comments come as Indigenous leaders are calling for an examination of every former residential school site, institutions that held children taken from families across the nation.
