High-speed internet voucher sees strong demand
The launch of a subsidy voucher that covers part of connection costs and a two-year subscription for new or existing ultra-high-speed connections (above 250 Mbps) has drawn significant demand.
According to official data, from November 18, when the Gigabit Voucher program came into effect, and until last Friday, some 12,000 vouchers were made available.

Private universities: A case for skepticism
Since I work at a private, not-for-profit university in the USA, one would expect me to be in favor of such institutions for Greece. While I do believe that not-for-profit private higher education is indeed fine, I am not sure if this model will work in Greece.

Minister announces changes to digital inclusion act
Ljubljana – The Government Office for Digital Transformation is drawing up changes to the act on digital inclusion, which introduced digital vouchers for students and the elderly. Under the act adopted under the previous government, most money would go for digital equipment, while this government plans to allocate more money for digital literacy courses.
Almost 6% of this year’s tourist vouchers spent
Ljubljana – In just over two weeks since this year’s tourist vouchers became available, Slovenian residents have spent almost EUR 11 million, or almost 6% of the available sum which totals EUR 186.78 million, the Financial Administration (FURS) told the STA on Tuesday.

Tourist vouchers not to be expanded to other services
Ljubljana – The Economy Ministry is not considering expanding the services for which tourist vouchers, a type of state aid for tourism amid the epidemic, can be used, despite calls to expand them beyond bed and breakfast to include various attractions, hospitality services, or tickets.

EU Commission calls for state guarantees for vouchers for cancelled travel
The European Commission will tell countries in the European Union to provide state guarantees for travel vouchers during the coronavirus pandemic, if they prefer people to accept the vouchers instead of cash refunds, according to a strategy document seen by Reuters.

Bulgarian Municipalities can now Apply for Wireless Internet under the EU WiFi4EU Free Wi-Fi Initiative
The thirty-six Bulgarian municipalities that have not participated in the WiFi4EU free Wi-Fi initiative in the public sector so far, can now apply for the new competition, the Ministry of Transport Information and Communications announced.
The competition will open on March 17. Municipalities must register in the WiFi4EU portal before that date.
