ALDE Vice Chairman Vosganian says PNL, USR's push for early elections is just a bluff

Vice Chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), deputy Varujan Vosganian, told a press conference in Iasi on Friday that the idea of holding early elections is a "bogy", and that no political party really wants the replacement of the current government. "I listened to yesterday (Thursday, ed. n.)'s statement by Mr Iohannis, which revealed what I was already suspecting.

UPDATE President Iohannis signs decree appointing interim Education Minister

President Klaus Iohannis on Monday signed a decree appointing incumbent Minister of Culture Daniel Breaz interim Education Minister. According to a press statement released by the Presidential Administration, Iohannis also signed a decree dismissing Ecaterina Andronescu as Education Minister.

Opposition leader Orban, President Iohannis discuss political issues, including presidential election

National leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban said after a meeting on Tuesday with President Klaus Iohannis that their talks focused on internal and European policy issues, as well as canvassing for the presidential election, given that PNL supports Iohannis' re-election for a new term.

Opposition tables constitution revision draft

The parliamentary opposition parties on Monday lodged a constitution revision draft that transposes the outcome of a May 26 referendum on justice matters and fully complies with the National Pact on Romania's European Path initiated by President Klaus Iohannis, according to National Liberal Party (PNL) MP Raluca Turcan.

Liberal leader Ludovic Orban on Thursday night stated in reference to the possibility for Klaus Iohannis be elected president of the European Council, that he wishes for the latter to be the PNL candidate to Romania's presidency, yet on the other hand, Klaus Iohannis would have the opportunity "to help Romania very much from this position" (of president of the European Council, ed. n.).

PM Dancila says she could've completed President Iohannis at Sibiu European summit

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Thursday that she and President Klaus Iohannis could have completed each other at the informal summit of EU leaders in Sibiu, where she did not participate, and she could have introduced Romania's achievements to Europe.

Students to start second semester on Feb 4

Around 18 million students in Turkey will begin the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year on Feb. 4. 

Semester-break for the students in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools will end on Feb. 4. 

Over 1 million teachers will also return to the schools after a two-week holiday.

The summer break will begin on June 14.

Slovenia's President Pahor welcomed with military honours by counterpart Iohannis at Cotroceni Palace

President of Slovenia Borut Pahor was welcomed on Tuesday morning by his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis with military honours at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

The Slovenian high official is on an official visit to Romania, at the invitation of the Romanian president.

"Mr President, we welcome you with a little snow," President Iohannis told his Slovenian counterpart.
