SYRIZA MP Polakis regrets backing Kasselakis, outlines leadership vision

SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis, who has announced his intention to run for the party leadership in late November, expressed regret for having supported the recently ousted leader Stefanos Kasselakis during the vote that elevated him to the head of the main opposition party.

The never-ending drama of SYRIZA's internal strife continued over the weekend with the members of the party's central committee approving a motion of no confidence in its president Stefanos Kasselakis, paving the way for yet another election contest for SYRIZA's leadership.

Breakaway MPs decide to form new parliamentary group

Eleven independent MPs who broke away from main opposition SYRIZA in recent weeks have agreed to form a new parliamentary group, the name of which will be announced on Monday. 

Chairman of the group is Alexis Haritsis, while Euclides Tsakalotos and Nasos Iliopoulos are the parliamentary representatives. Peti Perka is secretary.

New SYRIZA leader faces pushback

The new leader of the opposition, Stefanos Kasselakis, began his tenure as leader of the left-wing SYRIZA party by making some modest personnel changes that have already resulted in pushback.

Also, Kasselakis failed to persuade his main rival for the party leadership, lawmaker Effie Achtsioglou, to take any leadership role in the party or the parliamentary group.
