Plan for new Thessaloniki forest unveiled
A Thessaloniki businessman has unveiled plans to plant a new forest in a northern suburb of the city.
Under the plans, presented by Stavros Andreadis to the mayor of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Aslanidis, 300,000 trees will be planted on site of 300 hectares in the Efkarpia district.

The "Together" program started in Thessaloniki, an initiative of the TITAN Efkarpia factory and the innovation body Youthnest for young professionals aged 25-35 in the greater Thessaloniki area.
Efkarpia pyromaniac remanded after appearing before magistrate
A 31-year-old man accused of a series of arson attacks in Efkarpia, Thessaloniki and burning at least two dogs alive, one of which allegedly belonged to him, was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing before an investigative magistrate.
He appeared unable to explain the actions attributed to him, limiting himself to saying did not want to cause harm to anyone.
Perpetrators sought in Thessaloniki ATM blast
Police in Thessaloniki were seeking the perpetrators behind an explosion around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday that destroyed an ATM in the northern port city's Efkarpia suburb.
According to police, the assailants planted the device on the ATM, which was outside an insurance firm, and blew open the machine before fleeing with an undetermined sum of cash.

Car chase ends in arrest of people trafficker
A 39-year-old man was arrested on people trafficking charges early Saturday morning after a car chase in Thessaloniki.
Police said the man refused to stop his car, with seven illegal immigrants inside, when they hailed him down on the old Thessaloniki-Kavala highway.

Thessaloniki man dies playing soccer
A 28-year-old man collapsed and died while playing five-a-side soccer with friends in Thessaloniki on Sunday night. The man reportedly lost consciousness at the sports center in the Efkarpia area.
An ambulance crew tried to revive him but he was dead by the time they reached the local hospital.

Police investigate armed robbery in Thessaloniki
An undisclosed number of armed assailants barged into the offices of a company in the Efkarpia region of Thessaloniki and made off with 180,000 euros, local authorities said Thursday.
According to the 71-year-old company owner, the suspects entered the premises at noon on Tuesday and took off with a safe, checks, documents, jewelry and 10 gold sovereigns.
