Efkarpia pyromaniac remanded after appearing before magistrate

A 31-year-old man accused of a series of arson attacks in Efkarpia, Thessaloniki and burning at least two dogs alive, one of which allegedly belonged to him, was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing before an investigative magistrate.

He appeared unable to explain the actions attributed to him, limiting himself to saying did not want to cause harm to anyone.

Perpetrators sought in Thessaloniki ATM blast

Police in Thessaloniki were seeking the perpetrators behind an explosion around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday that destroyed an ATM in the northern port city's Efkarpia suburb.
According to police, the assailants planted the device on the ATM, which was outside an insurance firm, and blew open the machine before fleeing with an undetermined sum of cash.

Police investigate armed robbery in Thessaloniki

An undisclosed number of armed assailants barged into the offices of a company in the Efkarpia region of Thessaloniki and made off with 180,000 euros, local authorities said Thursday.

According to the 71-year-old company owner, the suspects entered the premises at noon on Tuesday and took off with a safe, checks, documents, jewelry and 10 gold sovereigns.
