Ancient grape seeds found in İzmir
Archaeological excavations on the Yassıtepe mound in İzmir's Bornova district have unearthed 5,000-year-old grape seeds that are believed to be the seeds of the Bornova Misket grape.
The findings were put on display at the Yeşilova mound visitor center following a ceremony.

?zmir Festival turns 30 in May
The 30th International ?zmir Festival will be organized between May 17 and June 25 this year with 10 concerts, three of which will be open to the public, at venues including the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center, the ?zmir State Theater Konak Stage, the Library of Celsius, the Kültürpark Open Air Theater and the Ephesus Ancient Theater.

An investigation has been launched into students at a university in Turkey's Aegean province of ?zmir for inflating balloons, planting trees and dancing the halay, a traditional folk dance.
Clashes erupt between rival students at Ankara University, one injured with gun
Rival student groups clashed at Ankara University on Feb. 26, leaving a security officer and a student injured.
Police built a barricade between the groups to end the clashes in which students attacked each other with stones and sticks, as the buildings in the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography were evacuated.
Turkish professor begins serving time for headscarf charges, first imprisonment in such a case
A former professor at Ege University in Turkeyâs Aegean city of Ä°zmir will enter jail on Nov. 27 to serve his two-year sentence for preventing a female student with a headscarf from entering the faculty building, becoming the first individual to be sentenced according to the law.
