The diplomacy of Turkey's coup attempt psyche

This week marks the first anniversary of the failed coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which from day one the government declared as a terrorist act orchestrated by the U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen.

Ankara subsequently urged Turkish embassies around the world to hold memorial services and use every occasion to explain the evils of Gülen's terror network to Turkey's allies. 

German government condemns President Erdoğan's Nazi remarks

Germany's government has condemned remarks by Turkey's president accusing officials of "Nazi practices," days after a local authority prevented a Turkish minister from addressing a meeting there.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's chief of staff called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statements "absolutely unacceptable."

Erdoğan and Turkey's tradition of pluralism

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was touring the Gulf last week. During the trip, he spoke to a number of Arab media outlets, including the Qatari newspaper Al-Arab. Most remarkable during this interview were his comments on Egypt. What he said wasn't so interesting, it is what he didn't say that made this interview so fascinating to me.

British PM May to visit Turkey on Jan 28

British Prime Minister Theresa May will visit Turkey on Jan. 28 and meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a spokesman said on Jan. 24, as the British leader seeks to prepare for post-Brexit trade deals.

The visit will be May's first to Turkey as prime minister and she is expected to fly directly to Ankara from the United States, the Downing Street spokesman said.
